Otterbox Commuter Series Galaxy S4 Smartphone Case Review

Today Ill be reviewing the Otterbox Commuter series case for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Ill be reviewing the black edition, but the case also comes in white, marine and a gray and white combination.
The case wraps around the phone and protrudes past the front of the phone providing a good protection zone around the phone.  The commuter series comes with a self adhesive screen protector unlike the defender series which has one built in.

Appearance
The black edition of the case is a wonderful case as it extends the aesthetic of the phone and isn't bulky to the point where it looks like your carrying a brick in your pocket. Rubber covers allow the volume and sleep/wake buttons to be easy to press but still protected. A rubber feeling flap covers the charging outlet on the phone. Not much to say about the screen protector, it works great. The back of the phone has a cutout for the camera and flash.

Functionality
On 2 or 3 occasions I've dropped the phone from a standing height. The case easily protected my phone in all cases, even when I was in a gravel parking lot with sharp rocks.  On the outside of the case is a hard plastic, but under that is a rubber material that absorbs impacts very well.  The case has holes allowing you to plug in a headphone and for the wireless sensors at the top.  If you look at the first picture you can see the screen protector saved me from quite a few scratches on the screen.

Installation
Installing the case on the phone is a breeze.  You first wrap the rubber "skin" around the phone then snap on the black backing.

Conclusion
The Otterbox commuter case is a great case if you want you phone protected from falls and bumps.  I would definitely recommend it as it has saved many dollars of damage from my S4.
Pricing is around $30
